Papaya Magic Cabaret was founded in the summer of 2018 by Dulce D’jour, Vanessa the Witch and Latina K. Turner (formerly Perlita Picante), after Latina reached out to Dulce and Vanessa with the crazy idea to form an all-Latine burlesque experience, making their debut as a collective at Azucar, a Celebration of Latin & Hispanic Heritage in September of 2018. Thus, we currently are Olympia’s first and only all-Latine burlesque and cabaret performance troupe.
As a collective, we seek to inspire and empower others who see themselves represented in our art and on our stage. Our goal is to produce an unforgettable experience for our audience and create spaces that are welcoming to all. Most recently as a group we have been featured performers at the inaugural
PNW Burlesque Festival which took place at the Capitol Theater in 2022.
Individually, our members are well known within the most immediate Olympian burlesque scene and beyond. Our members also collaborate regularly with
Olympia’s Own Tush! Burlesque whether individually or as a group.
Latina made their burlesque debut in 2010; co-founded
Rock Candy Burlesque in 2012; produced Azucar: A celebration of Latin Heritage at the Capitol Theatre in 2018 and 2019; and Mischief: a Melanated Variety Show series at Octapas Cafe in 2019, and hosted the Capital City Pride event in 2022.
Vanessa, a graduate of the the Washington State Teaching Artists Training Lab, is a teaching artist, performer, musician, vocalist, producer, and choreographer with over 15 years of professional theater and entertainment experience. She currently co-produces and hosts Olympia’s premier improv burlesque show
Strip! at the Crypt! at Cryptatropa Bar.
Dulce is a sought-after, award-winning traveling burlesque performer and instructor, fabric manipulator, and purveyor of fine hand-dyed performance silks at
Silk Electric. Dulce has been featured in several shows across Western Washington and the PNW, such as being featured PNW performer at the
What The Funk?! An All BIPOC Burlesque Festival this year at The Triple Door in Seattle.
